Vote Tuesday, November 8.

Elect John Shribbs to City Council District 2

For a Strong, Sustainable Petaluma Economy, Environment, and Community.

“Petaluma is a very special city in its own valley with a river running through and surrounded by rolling hills and forests of hundreds-year-old oak trees. We are fortunate to call Petaluma home.” John Shribbs

I am running for City Council to maintain District 2 quality-of-life and ensure a healthy economic, social, and environmental future for Petalumans city-wide.

It is paramount that our City elevate consideration of water supply, traffic, infrastructure burden, and flood risk in decision making. Quantifiable science matters and quality of life matters. Petaluma residents and local businesses must come first, not real estate developers.

I support:

  • Retaining our Fairgrounds’ agricultural heritage and functionality.

  • Transforming how we approach street design to improve mobility and safety for cars, bicyclists, and pedestrians.

  • Protecting our NE Greenbelt, improving our parks, and increasing our open space areas.

  • Intelligently adding housing, focused on affordability for our seniors, teachers, nurses, and law enforcement.

  • Expanding services for our growing senior population.

  • Systemically address our houseless community

Having served on numerous City of Petaluma committees, community coalitions, school programs, and environmental nonprofits over 30 years, I know how our City operates and how to get things done – from water management and environmental resource protection, to designing and revitalizing infrastructure, building learning centers, and securing funding.

And as a scientist, I am honored to have been appointed by our City Council to the General Plan Advisory Committee to help update Petaluma’s 20-year “General Plan,” which will be our blueprint for how we live and grow in the future. It would be my privilege to continue this work as your City Council Member, implementing specific actions and policies to ensure a science and economics-supported sustainable, resilient, successful Petaluma with regard to Climate Change.

I would be honored to have your vote to lead in building a strong, environmentally sound future for District 2 and all Petalumans.

Why am I Running?

I Believe in Community.

I have received many benefits from living in Petaluma and it is a great city because of its people and their strong community involvement. We have a very large, engaged community doing volunteer work and city staff that puts in extra effort above and beyond. We are proving to be a model city taking local actions and I want to help lead this community forward.

Think Global, Act Local

Petaluma has taken a leading role in California for taking action for climate change. Our General Plan Update process with 21 citizen leaders working closely with city staff and consultant team is taking shape and has a big vision for how we are going to be sustainable and resilient with our Climate Change Actions.

Preservation of our environment is not a liberal or conservative challenge; it's common sense.
